The title ‘Daddy Tales’ may raise some questions in
your mind. Some of these questions could be:
1) Are these tales told by daddy?
Ans: No
2) Are these stories about daddy?
Ans: Yes
3) Whose daddy are these stories about?
Ans: It could be about anyone's daddy.
2 4) Why the title ‘daddy tales?’
Ans: The stories about a man who is
the father of someone. That someone is not important but the father is. That’s
why the title ‘daddy tales.’
3 5) Are
these stories about your daddy or are these about you?
Ans: They aren’t about me or about
my father.
To avoid further questions being asked, I will
introduce ‘Daddy,’ the hero or the central character of the stories.
The dad that appears in these stories is no one in
particular. He could be anyone and everyone. The dad that appear in any
particular story is a different person. I have built stories around persons who
are fathers. That means they have a wife and at least one child. The
characteristics, responsibilities and the role of a father will be reflected in
the stories. That’s why I call these stories ‘daddy tales.
The daddy in the stories belongs to a middle class
family of South India. That is the only identity about him. He has this
identity because I have the same identity. Since these stories are built around
the personality of a father, for the sake of authenticity, I have given this
character an identity I am familiar with.
The stories are fictional but you may empathise with
the daddy appearing in these stories, especially if you are a father. Or, you
may be unconsciously comparing and contrasting the personality of ‘my daddy’
with your daddy!
‘My daddy’ won’t be like a film hero. But he will be
an ideal person with adorable traits. If you feel like emulating him, I will
consider my work a success.
Await the arrival of the Daddy!
